Cone-Beam CT

3D imaging with low radiation dose for detailed diagnosis

PLANMED VERITY Device

The recently installed device (PLANMED company, VERITY type) has the characteristic that besides dental, sinuses, petrous bone and temporo-mandibular joints, it is also suitable for MSK (Musculo-Skeletal) applications. This with a substantially lower radiation dose (1/4) than conventional CT.

Notable is the high spatial resolution (0.2 mm), but with less contrast than conventional CT, which is not a problem for common joint applications.

With CBCT, primary care has gained an efficient diagnostic modality. Potentially, one in three conventional CT scan examinations can be replaced by CBCT, with a substantially lower X-ray radiation load.

Benefits of CBCT

Low radiation dose

Substantially lower radiation dose (1/4) than conventional CT

High resolution

High spatial resolution (0.2 mm) for accurate diagnostics

Flexible positioning

Unique capability for both sitting and lying scans

Limitations: Given the relatively small gantry opening, only peripheral parts of the body can be scanned: facial mass, knee and more caudal: ankle and foot, elbow and peripheral: wrist and hand. So no cerebrum/abdomen/thorax/shoulder/hip possible, for which 'conventional' CT is indicated.

Clinical Applications

Arthro-CBCT

Excellent visualization of menisci, cruciate ligaments and articular surfaces

Applications for knee, elbow, wrist and foot, with or without contrast

Standing examinations

Knee, ankle and foot can be performed standing under load

Ideal for cartilage lesions, joint mice and static examination

Trauma diagnostics

Superior diagnosis in significant wrist, ankle and foot trauma with negative X-ray

In 50% of negative X-rays, a crack, avulsion or fracture is still visible with CBCT

Reimbursement Modalities (Health Insurance)

The following reimbursement conditions apply in both private practices and hospitals. These regulations are established by the health insurance system.

Conditions for reimbursement

CBCT examinations are reimbursed by health insurance when prescribed by a recognized healthcare provider, under the following conditions:

  • General practitioners and specialists: CBCT for sinuses and limbs, including arthro-CT examinations of knee, wrist and ankle
  • Dentists: CBCT of maxilla and mandible, specifically for implantology

For detailed information about nomenclature numbers and specific reimbursements, please contact our administration or consult the health insurance system.
